is this the singapore we wanted?

gonna go all political now so it might get a little boring.
anyway there were some events which struck me and i was 'whoa, theres something wrong with this world'. firstly, i was going home. as i got into the lift, a middle -aged couple joined me in the lift. for that 20 seconds, it was utter silence. i looked at them, and nope they werent lookin back at me, they were lookin down on the floor, as if haggard and really stressed out from a day at work. yea sure it might seem like an insignificant event but that made me think. what has our society become? are we so lacking in confidence that we dont even dare to lift our head high? what has made us this way? is it the way our gown-ment has drilled us into producing results, and thats the only thing that matters? im taking a page out of my econs textbook to inform one and all that standard of living includes BOTH material and non material aspects of life. so, if we're gonna become filthy rich, but not have the time to spend the money, whats the point in earning it? so that you can show off to your imaginary friends?(the real friends dont matter, because there arent any. everyone's too busy making money for any social interaction). yea sure im like every other singaporean: complain, complain, complain. and im not giving any effective solution to curb the problem. but then again, pardon me, but could we also blame the gown-ment for making us so 1-dimensional in such a rigid education system that no one has the ability to think outside the box in solving singapore's problems? (but then again, boring education is better than no education. or have we been influenced to think that way?)
yes we're UNIQUELY SINGAPORE. we're so unique, that guess what, we have our very own London Eye! well except that this attraction is also found in the little city of LONDON. unique, anyone? biennale(or bienalle) too. its so unique that its also found in venice.
anyway back to the main issue of social problems. how many times have u wanted to approach that cute girl on the bus who's sitting alone and just strike up a conversation with her? too many to count actually(im being honest =)), but u realise that the girl's happily listening to her ipod and u decide to be the good guy and not bother her. anyways it struck me when my dad was driving his car, and when we stopped at a traffic light, we saw this lorry next to us. there were 3 people sitting on the back, 2 girls, 1 guy. both girls were fiddling on their handphones and the guy was doodling on his psp. weren't they suppose to enjoy the breeze and chit chat along the way? even our' foreign talent' who we usually see crowding the back of those lorries, have interaction. iuno man we need to slow down time and enjoy life. i guess im a hypocrite if i say 'screw technology' when here i am blogging about this on the computer with my handphone next to me.
but wow, i think i would have made a really good hippie.
